Unlike other classrooms within the school building, the music classroom is always bursting with energy that must be guided. It is important for students within the classroom to feel safe and cared for, but to also find the concepts being taught relevant. To create motivation and be able to manage the class is based on proper communication of expectations, building respect of students, and careful planning. Letting the students know what is expected of them is a way to keep them from becoming confused and misbehaving without knowing. It is better to have the students follow the rules out of respect, than out of fear. Building the respect the students towards the teacher is a way of keeping the students under control. Good pacing combined with good planning also keeps downtime to a minimum and giving less chances for the students to talk or become distracted.
